| Here, we show mutual-information (MI) Optimal flight paths for February 16, which maximizes the MI between the surface velocity measured along the candidate flight tracks in the table below on February 16 and Sigma-T at the verification points shown in the figure on the right on February 18 and 20. In addition, we consider flight paths that are 700 nmi and 805 nmi long. In each case, the flight is allowed to travel in any of Nθ=16 different directions (0° [north], 22.5°, 45°, etc.), in Ns=7 segments between takeoff and landing. We also consider a set of candidate flight paths at 700 nmi that are allowed to travel in any of Nθ=10 different directions in Ns=11 segments between takeoff and landing. |
