There are level 3 products which are the bio-optical and SST of daily individual images http://www7333.nrlssc.navy.mil/browse/lvl3/modis/5.2/LigurianSea/2007/mar/ There are level 4 products which are 7 day latest Pixel composites http://www7333.nrlssc.navy.mil/browse/lvl4/modis/5.2/LigurianSea/7daylp/2007/mar/ - we will very likely have 2 VHF radars (frequency autorization pending) covering the large La Spezia bay mid-May-early July (one unit in La Rochetta and one at CNR Santa Teresa) to measure surface currents (see also picture attached) - examples of AVHRR SST processed at NURC (images+netcdf) are now available http://geos2.nurc.nato.int/mrea07data/FTP/NURC/REM_SENS/ - MFSTEP analyses from INGV for a short period are now available and may be used for boundary conditions of high resolution models http://geos2.nurc.nato.int/mrea07data/FTP/INGV/ - ENEL power plant (historical monthly means) discharge temperature data are available at http://geos2.nurc.nato.int/mrea07data/FTP/CNR_LASPEZIA/ River Magra and Arno data should be available soon in the same directory (= POC Gasparini Gian Pietro [gasparini@sp.ismar.cnr.it]) - we would like CTD/ADCP data collected by everybody during the experiment to be made available on GEOS in near real-time. NURC will take care of CTD conversion to .cnv and .dat formats (see attached) and other formats if needed. POC is Pietro Zanasca (zanasca@nurc.nato.int). - whenever possible, we will update fields for boundary conditions, remote sensing products, river outflow data during the MREA operational phase 15 April - 15 July Thanks to the efforts of Michel Aidonidis (SHOM) and Lucio Torrisi (Aeronautica Militare), I am glad to inform you that meteorological forcings are now available for download on GEOS under http://geos2.nurc.nato.int/mrea07data/FTP/SHOM for ALADIN forecasts and http://geos2.nurc.nato.int/mrea07data/FTP/METEOAM (2 resolutions) for LM forecasts respectively. These fields will cover a week-long period for testing only whilst the operational phase will start 15 April. Note that for ALADIN fields, humidity parameter @ 2m is unavailable and is replaced by Dew Point Temperature. COAMPS fields from NURC are not available yet. Thanks to Craig Lewis, Paola Nardini and Andrea Cavanna (NURC), a 1km resolution bathymetry is now also available for the whole MREA area at http://geos2.nurc.nato.int/mrea07data/gis/bathymetry/mrea07/ Very best regards, Michel Classification: NATO UNCLASSIFIED RELEASABLE FOR INTERNET TRANSMISSION Dear colleagues, You are receiving this email because you are involved in the NURC BP07 and/= or LASIE07 experiments. The BP07 experiment will be conducted southeast of Elba island 21 April - 2= May 2007 (TBC): POC Jean-Claude Legac, LeGac@nurc.nato.int The LASIE07 experiment will be conducted in the Ligurian Sea 14 June - 5 Ju= ly 2007 (TBC): POC Joao Teixeira, teixeira@nurc.nato.int They are both part of a large MREA downscaling effort, with external ship support from the Dutch Navy, the Italian Navy, the German FWG and the Itali= an CNR. This will also include a drifter launch experiment in the Ligurian and potentially some (V)HF radars installed in the La Spezia area for current measurements during LASIE07 (POC Michel Rixen, rixen@nurc.nato.int ). Target modeling periods for the different areas (see picture below) are: - MREA07: 15 April - 15 July - BP1, BP2, BP3, BP4: 15 April - 15 May - ASI1, ASI2, ASI3, ASI4: 1 June - 5 July Modeling groups may focus on one or several areas depending on computing resources, nesting strategies, available forcing, etc. Please forward detai= ls on actual intentions and implementations (area, resolution, forcing, bounda= ry conditions) to me so we can populate the GEOS web. Model outputs should ideally be uploaded on the GEOS FTP site. You will nee= d a login/password. Please contact Andrea Cavanna (cavanna@nurc.nato.int ) for access details. You may ask Andrea Cava= nna to create a directory with the name of your institution under http://geos2.nurc.nato.int/mrea07data/FTP . Boundaries, bathymetries, coastlines and climatologies for the areas have b= een uploaded on GEOS at http://geos2.nurc.nato.int/mrea07data/ and may be helpful to setup the different ocean models. River outflows should be available soon as well. Atmospheric forcing fields will be available on GEOS for the MREA07 period: - ALADIN from Meteo France provided through SHOM-FR (POC Michel A=EFdonidis= - Michel.Aidonidis@shom.fr ) - LM at 2 different resolutions provided by METEOAM-IT (POC Lucio Torrisi - torrisi@meteoam.it ) - COAMPS-OS provided by NURC (POC Joao Teixeira - teixeira@nurc.nato.int ) Examples fields (~ a week long) should also be available soon on GEOS (next week?). I am looking forward to an exciting MREA experiment.
