The HOPS Primitive Equation model was re-initialized using the Alliance CTD data collected through 06 October and forced with atmospheric fluxes from FNMOC. The forecasts were made using topography derived from the 1 minute DBDBV topography. A planned upgrade using high-resolution topography obtained from Francesco Spina and melded to the DBDBV by Reiner Onken is nearly complete.
The results presented below show temperature, salinity and total velocity vectors at the surface. The velocity magnitudes seem small. A re-examination of the Elba-domain model parameters is underway. The land-mask on the velocity plot is the same as on the temperature and salinity plots, although it appears over simplified. The coasts plotted are for display purposes only.
The actual Elba domain forecasts are made in the Elba domain surrounding the island as indicated in the cover page. The products here are focussed on Procchio Bay and its surroundings.
