As part of the AFMIS/LOOPS/AOSN collaborative effort,
a 3-day long updating survey in the Massachusetts Bay was carried out during
September 2-4, 1998. This survey collected temperature, salinity, and
chlorophyll profiles at selected stations in the Bay area. Such data
will be used for updating the Harvard Ocean Prediction System (HOPS).
The nominal cruise tracks are shown in Figures 1-3 for the three days.
Data note: data from the Seabird CTD continue to be plagued with
significant noise and low values of salinity. In addition, the Seabird instrument
broke down on the second day of the survey. As a result, only the data from the
Falmouth Scientific instrument are presented here. Also note that only the
downcasts have been included in the Harvard formatted data.
