Top panel:

   Outlines of the 3 nested domains used in ASCOT-01
      Northwest Atlantic domain  (NWA)  (~15km resolution)
      Gulf of Maine domain       (GOM)  (~5km resolution)
      Massachusetts Bay domain   (MB)   (~5/3km resolution)

Middle panel

   Averaging diagram.
      - Solid lines are the borders of the computational boxes for
        tracer variables (temperature, salinity) in the PE model
        in the Gulf of Maine domain.
      - Open circles are the centers of the tracer boxes (tracer points)
        in the Gulf of Maine domain.
      - Dashed lines are the borders of the tracer boxes in the
        Massachusetts Bay domain.
      - Plus signs are the centers of the tracer boxes (tracer points)
        Massachusetts Bay domain.

   The red highlights how 9 boxes in the Massachusetts Bay domain
   are averaged to replace the corresponding GOM box.
      - Collocation ensures that the 9 MB boxes exactly define
        1 GOM box.

   Also note that the final row of MB boxes are unused for averaging.

Bottom panel

   Interpolation diagram.
      - PE boxes same as in averaging diagram.

   The green lines join the centers of the GOM tracer boxes used in
   interpolating to the green shaded MB boundary tracer boxes.
