Plots undersized when matlab is run using SGE

Posted by Patrick Haley at November 08. 2013

Tapovan reported that matlab was producing tiny plots when run under qsub in SGE, even though he has specified a size. Based on a meeting with Pat & Pierre the following tests/fixes were devised

  1. Try not specifying a size. Pat seemed to recall having better luck (i.e. larger plots) with default Matlab plots under qsub that specifying a size.
  2. Test running Matlab in background without using SGE
    1. on front end
    2. on a compute node
  3. If the non-SGE backgrounding works, see if can set-up a script that mimics non-SGE backgrounding for SGE submitted runs
  4. Reinstall compute nodes with graphics added
  5. Run interactive sessions on compute nodes to make plots (least favorable alternative)
