We also discuss an important issue that\r\narises in creating an integrated, web-accessible framework for such a\r\nsystem out of existing stand-alone components: transparent support for\r\nhandling legacy binaries. Such binaries, that are most common in scientific\r\napplications, expect a standard input stream, maybe some command\r\nline options, a set of input files and generate a set of output files as well\r\nas standard output and error streams. Legacy applications of this form\r\nare encapsulated using XML.
