We chose this section to explore the direct "Cold Dome" effect on acoustic transmission loss. The sound speed section with initial transport of 0.35Sv S has a thinner surface mixed layer due to the stronger Cold Dome. We simulate sound propagation for a 60 km long section; even though acoustic variations due to the Cold Dome variability are large, they are not as large as the corresponding acoustic differences in cross-shelf2 and along-Canyon section. This is likely due to the fact that the cross-shelf2 section has a complex bathymetry that amplifies the effects of the different ocean conditions on sound propagation. | ||
